Starliner II

This piece is called Starliner II because it is the second piece attempting to show a cruise liner in space. It was created with a combination of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Painter.

I have this notion that many of the recreational activities we undertake here on earth will be just as popular in an interstelar setting. Granted, man of the grand spectacular nebular views may not be quite as cool in real life. Photography can capture the colors and details our eyes can't but mybe there will be things we never dreamed of or technologies to make them visible!

Either way, I am fascinated with starships and a cruiseliner seemed the most familiar and accessible way to spread that interest.

The first attempt to create a starliner image didn't turn out as I had hoped. (It's all a learning process, right?) This one was better and I was really happy with the background. The nebula was built using layers and subtle photoshop effects. I didn't want the piece to look too "photoshopy" so I tried to use filters as little as possible.

There are a few things I am going to try on the next piece that just wouldn't have worked here.

Stay tuned.
