Late?

I was reading Irene Gallo's Blog recently and came across the post where she discusses calling up artists to find out about late art. It was a little bothersome to me since I have not missed a deadline in 11+ years of illustrating. Even the times when I knew that I was overbooked. I simply missed sleeping that night and did the work!

It doesn't make a lot of sense why artists think that they can miss deadlines and still expect to make a living. I think that some may believe that they are so good they don't need to worry about finishing on time because the client will love whatever they do. Or perhaps an artist feels that the deadline is unfair? Perfectionism (just can't let it go until I paint that last little perfect stroke!). Or maybe simple procrastination.

The bottom line is that if an artist expects to receive any further work they need to run their affairs like a business. Talent can only carry one so far before simple customer service is required!
