Freeflowing Creativeness

With my son's world growing ever bigger, this last few months have been a bit crazy and as a result, I haven't been very artistically productive at all. I've been doing the usual keeping up with the various journals as I can and read the beginning of the very good book The Photoshop and Painter Artist Tablet Book by Cher Thrienen-Pendarvis. Unfortunately, I had to return it to the library before I could finish it. (Great resource, those libraries!)

I did get a great idea for a painting of my son for my wife for Christmas.

It was just this sort of thing that led me in a different painterly direction. I experimented with a new media in Corel Painter and was very pleased with the result. (Sorry, I'm not putting this one up for viewing because I feel that it is a unique gift and sharing it would diminish its value for me.) I don't normally use oils but this time it simply felt right.

What was very refreshing was that I went into this painting with a more free atitude and I feel the piece was very successful. Most other times I try to do a piece of art, I feel that it ends up being forced and overworked.

This was a great lesson for me to remember.
